Although this is not where I thought I was going, I am right where I belong. :)
Life is full of surprises! Right after high school, I thought I had a plan for my future. I started at Coastal Carolina University in the fall of 2003 majoring in Marketing. I quickly decided that wasn't for me and proceeded to switch majors a whopping 6 times. I finally felt at ease when I entered the Early Childhood Education program and began doing some hands on service hours. In the meantime while in college, I had been working at Waccamaw Youth Center. I started off just helping with daily needs as simple as running to the grocery store but that quickly evolved into a full time and much larger role at the Center. By 2005, I was invested in my job and the lives of the children that I was working with. As a result of this, I was compelled to make a decision about my future and my education so I changed majors again! Since CCU did not offer a social work program, it was suggested to me by a professor that I obtain a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a emphasis on social work so that is just what I did! I graduated in 2007 and never looked back. The roller coaster of life took me for a ride with choosing my career path but it landed me right where I fit. I feel like I was led to the Center to make an impression and change lives and thats my lifelong goal. So, now my days are spent spreading the mission of the Waccamaw Youth Center and helping foster kids find more than just a place to call home..... finding a second family, OURS.
Find a passion and you will never have to work a day in your life!
These are some of my boys on one of our many adventures.
